WHY YOU SHOULD CLEAN YOUR BED?

As rational human beings, we try to achieve a high healthy level of lifestyle,  so we go around the house and try to clean everything, cleaning clothes, sheets, dishes, floor, tables, the kitchen, we even clean ourselves every day.

Cleaning is becoming a function nowadays rather than an option. It’s even qualified as a luxury treat when you have no time to do it and have to pay a third party to do it for you.

Through all these undesired experiences, we forget about the most important household item: Our Mattress.

We use our mattress 8 hours a day, every day, every month, almost 3000 hours a year! which makes it the most used Item in our house.

Every time you use your bed, a certain amount of dead skin, sweat and bacteria are depositing, in addition to any dirt, sweat or grease that may have also built up on your skin throughout the day. At night, your body keeps doing the same process. On the other hand, dust mite is accumulating with or without usage as it’s spread all around us in the air. Water spills and having a pet can also generate bacteria of their own (water/liquid spills inside the inner-mattress is a major reason for mold creation)

The composition and the warmth of the inner mattress create the perfect place for these intruders to regenerate.Creating a bigger population and a better atmosphere for Bacteria, fungus, mites, and even feces and bed bugs to take over.

Weather conditions are also a factor in the growing process.

These harmful populations become dangerous to the body only after 6 months of using the same mattress by one person and can cause allergies and skin rashes, in addition to more effects on our health on the long term.

Hence, the importance to clean and take care of your mattress periodically.

These Bacteria can be treated in different ways and here are a few tips: First you have to take good care of your sheets and pillow covers, a periodic change and wash every 3 to 5 days would do. Try to aerate the mattress by uncovering it and the room as much as you can. Let the sunlight come in especially in a sunny city like Calgary where we get Chinooks. Don’t miss out on the spring sunlight, the sun produces multiple types of lights, some of them only during the spring season, an example is, Ultra-Violet light type C, which is a powerful natural disinfectant and sanitizer.

After all, there was a reason why people in the past in Alberta bring their mattresses out during the spring for a fully needed sunbath.
